Assessing and diagnosing prostate cancer
We offer a wide range of advanced tests for assessing prostate cancer, including the genetics based PCA3 test, the PSA and template biopsy.
PSA test
The PSA test is the standard assessment for risk of prostate cancer and continues to be valuable, however we consider the PSA test as part of a range of assessments.
PCA3 test
We also use the PCA3 test, histoscanning and family history assessment to provide a more complete picture of your individual risk and needs.
Biopsy and active monitoring
By assessing prostate cancer using the widest range of advanced risk assessments and diagnostic tools, we are best placed to advise whether a biopsy for prostate cancer is required or whether prostate cancer active monitoring is more appropriate for you.
Template biopsy
A template biopsy is a new way of more accurately assessing and mapping the prostate. It is very valuable for men who have had repeated negative biopsies but are judged to be at high risk of having prostate cancer.
Enhanced prostate MRI scans
Harley Street Urology works in partnership with specialists in enhanced prostate MRI scans, also known as prostate mapping, used before and as an alternative to standard biopsy. This technology is called multiparametric technology called the 3T Verio MRI scanner. In this section we explain what this technology is, how it is used and why it is beneficial.
“PSA remains important, but it is not the only means for understanding prostate cancer risk, and with a wider range of diagnostic tools available, we are able to distinguish ‘the tigers’ from ‘the pussy cats’ and provide individually-based treatment.”
