Sexual intercourse

Seventy-three per cent of patients in the index study group were able to have sexual intercourse within six months to one year of their surgery.

We ensure patients clearly understand the terms used. Some surgeons describe ‘erectile recovery’ and report very high rates. However, this can describe a small degree of rigidity insufficient for sexual intercourse.

Index study patients are asked to describe their rigidity during arousal and this is given a percentage. The recovery of erections after surgery is gradual, as the results demonstrate.
